Older Drivers and the Workplace
Research shows older drivers are more likely than their younger counterparts to embrace safe behaviors such as wearing a seat belt and complying with speed limits. Even so, drivers 55-and-over are twice as likely to die in a work-related crash, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. In this session, Mike Ezzell with the National Safety Council will discuss age-related physical and mental changes that may affect older workers’ driving. He will be joined by Cindy Kover, program manager of the Brazos Valley Injury Prevention Coalition and Mature Drivers Program. The two will talk about state initiatives, including CarFit, an educational program that enables older drivers to check how well they “fit” in their vehicles.
