Opioids and the Continuing Epidemic
Opioid-related emergency calls are increasing at an alarming rate across Texas and around the U.S. A majority of the calls involve synthetic opioids and fentanyl-laced counterfeit pills. More than 107,000 people died from overdoses last year, according to preliminary data released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Impairment is a safety issue on the road and on the job. In this session, National Safety Council Program Manager Mike Ezzell will discuss the signs and symptoms of opioid use and misuse. He also will discuss current trends and updates on natural and synthetic opioids, including fentanyl, and how to use Narcan in emergency-response situations.
