Low Voltage Arc Flash and Electrical Shock Safety for High Voltage Qualified Persons
Many rules and regulations govern high-voltage work. High-voltage personnel not only understand the dangers but take cautionary measures to ensure their safety and the safety of others when working with high-voltage. However, what happens when high-voltage workers find themselves working with low-voltage? Does their safety mentality carry over into low-voltage work? This webinar explores two serious incidents to illustrate the discrepancy that often occurs when high-voltage qualified workers manage low-voltage as compared to their work with high-voltage. We will explain some similarities and differences between these two voltage systems, as well as the standards that apply to each. The webinar will describe the environments in which workers are exposed to this “crossover” and then offer practical recommendations for workplace safety and compliance. This webinar is for any work above or below 600 volts, including utilities, power plants, and commercial industrial users with >600V distribution systems.

Zarheer Jooma, M.S., P.E., is a partner at e-Hazard (e-hazard.com). He performs electrical workplace safety training, consulting, arc-flash engineering studies, electrical incident investigations and electrical safety audits. Zarheer is a member of the IEEE 1584-1:2021 Working Committee and Ballot Resolution Committee, ASTM F18 – Electrical Protective Equipment for Workers, and IEC TC78 – Live Working. He also has contributed to the NFPA 70E standard. Zarheer currently serves as the editor/papers review chair for the IEEE Electrical Safety Committee.
