Holiday Help: Supporting Mental Health This Season
The holiday season is often accompanied by increased stress. Though many people look forward to festivities with friends and family, for others, this time can bring on or worsen stress, anxiety and depression, and increase the risk for substance use, relapse and overdose. A variety of factors can bring on holiday anxiety, and this year, with the impacts of the pandemic, there are new, complex situations, challenges and circumstances that employees and their families must consider. Attendees will learn more about these issues and leave with an understanding of actions they can take to protect themselves, loved ones, colleagues and more.

Panelists include:

Cheryl Potts, the Executive Director of the Kennedy Forum, where she works to promote access to care for people living with mental health and substance use disorder and eliminate discrimination. She dedicated her professional life, and much of her personal life, to being a champion for those in living with substance use disorders, those living with mental health conditions, the homeless, and people living with HIV. She is also a person living with a mental health disorder.

Clifton "Cliff" Saper, PhD, is the lead clinical psychologist with the AMITA Health Behavioral Medicine Institute. Dr. Saper specializes in clinical training, crisis response, diversity issues, wellness/prevention and individual, family and group therapy. He has been the lead psychologist in a large health system for 25 years, focused on training, developing intensive outpatient behavioral medicine program, interdisciplinary staff well-being initiatives, ethics, and behavioral medicine within the health system.
