Transportation Roundtable: Roadway Safety During COVID-19 and Beyond
Preliminary data indicate COVID-19 is altering the dynamics of roadway safety with negative consequences. In both March and April of this year, preliminary estimates from the National Safety Council showed that as Americans began driving less and covering fewer miles, the emptier roads became more lethal. Motor vehicle fatality rates per miles driven increased by double digits compared to the year prior, according to NSC analysis.

During this roundtable, NSC – in partnership with some of the country’s top transportation leaders – will present its motor vehicle fatality estimates for May and discuss the transportation changes that need to happen as we continue grappling with the pandemic. This includes the roles that employers, federal and state leaders, and public health and safety professionals all play in saving lives on the roads.
